Garden Geometry?

This year, I noticed a lot of geometric features at the NW Flower and Garden Show.
Circles and angles...

Click on the pictures to enlarge them

Vertical and horizontal lines...

Crosses, diagonals...

Squares...

Vertical lines...

Again, verticality and horisontality...

Sure, geometrical elements are all over around us, but they were not so prominent at the previous several garden shows, at least on my pictures. Maybe, I can get some ideas for my garden...
Among several definitions of Geometry, I like this one the most:
The pure mathematics of points and lines and curves and surfaces.
If so, I think we, gardeners, are mathematicians, in certain sense... Aren't we?

  1. YES we are! When we think our garden, our seeds and future plants or veggies, we think in lines, squares or other geometrical shapes.

    Interesting trend indeed!

  2. That sure is a beautiful display of different flowers and plants. I like the verticals and horizontals, nicely done.

  3. I've been exploring this a bit with some of the geometric designs for Versailles etc. Personally I prefer curves and more flowing shapes but there definately is a relationship between nature and geometry, eg, Fibonacci numbers.

  4. You've shown several pots that I could add to the garden for geometry and architectural features! It loks like it was an inspiring show...gail

  5. That is interesting that it seems everyone had the same idea this year. :-) I do like some of what is done with the patterns, especially with the use of potted plants.

  6. Someone must call a preshow meeting as to the design ideas for the show. I love the trellis with all the pots. Very pleasing to the eye.

  7. I had to laugh at the idea that as a gardener I'm doing math. I SO suck at math. :) Interesting, the geometric shapes being the latest and greatest. I kind of like those trellises with built in plant container holders. I've been seeing them a lot lately.

  8. Oooh, interesting idea. No. Not to me just at the moment. I find my taste in gardens varies widely from one few months to the next. At the moment I favour an enclosed space but with informal planting, so any geometry is subtle at most. But ask me again in July and I could be trying to rebuild Versailles with flowerpots!
